P6: IMS Platforms and Services Update - Myths vs. Reality Check

Chair: Prof. Thomas Magedanz, TU Berlin / FhG FOKUS, Germany

Abstract: The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), is considered globally as the most promising service delivery platform (SDP) standard (supported by 3GPP, 3GPP2, ETSI, OMA, IETF, etc.) for the provision of seamless mobile multimedia services within emerging all IP and Next Generation Networks (NGNs). First IMS trials and deployments are currently under way. Is the IMS really the target NGN SDP? This panel, bringing together all relevant players, will discuss the maturity of standards and related products, the potential IMS applications and business cases, as well as IMS introduction strategies. In addition, open issues for future R&D and standardisation will be identified
